Model Review – New Volkswagen VW

Love the new VW? Lowest new Volkswagen car prices in the UK

Volkswagen's relationship with the UK dates back to 1952, when the first two VW Beetles were sold. In 1953 Volkswagen Motors Ltd became the official UK importer, and the brand went from strength to strength. The VW Passat arrived in 1973, the VW Golf and VW Scirocco were imported in 1974 while the last VW Beetle built in Europe arrived in the UK in 1978.

Volkswagen also centralised its operations in 1978, and moved into its new £9.5 million headquarters in Blakelands, Milton Keynes. From Blakelands the company controls sourcing, marketing and distribution of all vehicles and parts in the UK and provides a host of support services to both its retailers and customers.

In 1987 the 1 millionth Volkswagen was sold in the UK, and in 1993 Volkswagen AG took control of the importership and the 2 millionth Volkswagen was imported.

Today Volkswagen UK, as part of the Volkswagen Group, is one of the country's largest importers of vehicles, employing nearly 600 people nationwide, with the Volkswagen brand employing 174 in Blakelands alone. Volkswagen also has 260 dealers throughout the UK.

With the release Volkswagens new Golf GTI, Volkswagens strength in the UK market looks set to continue.
